126 trunk locks
The 126 has two trunk locks and the one on the left locked and would not open . I took the car to the indie and he drilled a small hole to the left of the license plate and felt around with a stiff wire and got the trunk open. This happened on the 300SDL. I will not go into detail on the charges just now. My 300SEL also has the two locks and I want to remove the one on the left to avoid this happening again. My question is: what is the purpose of this extra lock and can the latch that is attaced to the trunk lid be removed without causing any problems with the lock system? A lost day and several $$$$$$ was my experience with the SDL. Any advice or comments will be appreciated.

My 126 (and I assume yours) has an additional electric lock in the trunk that is part of the factory ALARM system. There is a plug (two prong, I think) on it. Just disconnect it. The vacuum lock is unaffected by this.

My 126 also has two trunk locks, the one to the left is linked to the main lock, not electric.
If you remove the latch from the trunk it will not work anymore. |

Can I assume the little plastic cog failed With all the engineering, brass and heavy steel, they put a cheap plastic cog to control that secondary lock
