Chain guide removal on 260E

My friend is replacing the head gasket on his 1987 260E (103) engine. Can anyone out there tell me how he can remove the hollow threaded pin that holds the guide without buying the MB tool (about $130) or is it not possible to remove without the tool? Thanks in advance for your advise.
