240D key improvement

I have a 1981 240D that I had to get a new master key for. The dealer provided it when I gave the VIN#, etc. But my complaint is that the key is not made for the real world. It is a brass key shaft mounted in a plastic head. Within a matter of weeks, the shaft falls out of the head and you really cannot glue it. They've replaced it for me once; I don't really want another one like that. Does anyone know of a source for a more durable key?
