W124 Oil Light
i have a 1995 e320 wagon; my mechanic is scratching his head because he just replaced the oil pressure sender but the idiot light is still on?
any ideas? we know for sure that the car is not low on oil and hasn't been since i've owned it last year. |

I'm not sure if this is a normally open or closed switch. I would start by checking if the light goes out by shorting out the switch (or taking the wire off if that doesn't work)
Are you talking about the low level oil switch? (The oil pressure sender is a different thing) |

now that you mention it i can see that the sender is for the gauge and not the "idiot light." yes, i suppose i could get back in there and disconnect the light- maybe later this spring when it's a little warmer outside.
it's more of a nuisance than anything. |

Sounds like mechanic should have replace oil level sender rather than oil pressure sender. Mechanic ought to pay for his mistake.
Seems like every day there is evidence on this and other forums that it's difficult to find mechanics with actual experience and skill in Mercedes. Thinking a "general" mechanic can work on this cars is pretty dangerous IMHO.

while my mechanic does tend to be on the conservative side of things as far as spending money on vehicles, it is i who ordered the oil pressure sender after self-diagnosing the problem. i simply presented it to him and asked him if he would replace it.
i had no idea that there were two different senders but i guess it makes sense now that i figure that the "idiot" light is for the amount of oil and the gauge is for the pressure of the oil. |
