'93 190E - Motor Mount Issue
Ok, in a previus thread I was seeking help in diagnosing an issue. It was said that my motor mounts are the problem. I have a 1993 190E with the 2.3 engine. One of the mounts on the drivers side of the car and close to the front.. located in front of the air filter housing is not connected at the top. It's just laying against the motor. How do I fix this? Is there a repair manual that I can buy so I can find out exactly where the rest of the mounts are located and what they need to be connected to? I really feel like the mechaninc mentioned in the previus thread let the motor mount loose on purpose to get me to come back, so I'd rather try to do this myself.

There is no motor mount in the location you are describing. You must be referring to something else. On the driver's side, the motor mount is mounted wayyyy down under the intake manifold, difficult to even see without removing at least the air cleaner. On the passenger side it is easy to see. Are you perhaps describing the air cleaner housing mounts?

Yeah that doesn't sound like a motor mount. A motor mount is round and about 4 to 5 inches in diameter and about 5 inches from top to bottom with a steel bottom and a thick rubber top. There are two of them, one on the driverside and one on the passenger side underneath the engine. Here is a pic from fastlane.

Nope, that's not it. Must be the air cleaner housing mounts. It looks like a little shock with a lug on the end of it. I have pictures and will upload them tonight.
I don't understand why when I come to a stop or am sometimes just idling the car will start missing/shaking and or die. Could this be the motor mounts indeed? It has all new plugs, plug wires, and a new ignition coil. I need help here. |

Thanks. I think maybe I am having an issue with the ICV or possible the IAC from reading older posts. SBourg seems to be an expert on the issue, maybe I can get him to reply here.

Not an expert, just intimately familiar with the systems on OUR 190E that I have worked on. Anyway, the only mini shock at the front of the engine is a drive belt damper, attached below the fan from the alternator bracket to the idler pulley. It can be loose and noisy, but should cause no driveability issues.
From your symptoms, look into cleaning the idle control valve or resoldering the contacts inside the OVP relay as possible cures. But, if you work on the ICV, you should pre-order ALL the rubber air hoses attached there, the intake manifold, and the breather circuit, as they will be hardened, leak at couplings, and will likely break on removal. The OVP is behind the access panel that is behind the battery, id'd by having a fuse on top. Steve

The ICV is below the air cleaner, wedged between the 3rd and 4th intake runners.
