1991 560 sel just had valve guides etc done , timiing chain, etc done at 250K
now when I first start her up here in cold climate it knocks like their is no oil for a few seconds..then quiets down and is ok till next morning. Also, as it sits at idle I noticed a slight whining sound and upon investigation sounds like it may be coming from the power steering pump. This sounds comes and goes so when I take in to my mechanic of course the sound is gone. |

DID that shop use a factory timing chain TENSIONER or aftermarket??????
The aftermarket ones DON'T have the extra check valve that the OE ones do have......That extra valve holds the oil pressure overnight.

Does it knock when you accelerate?
Mine is the opposite. No knocking when cold, but when warm, I can hear a faint knock at lower RPMS on acceleration. My engine is probably shot though. ![]() |
