So I have some vacuum problems and I'm looking to replace a warn change-over control piece but I'm looking for a part number or name. It's on a 1980 300D. The engine part looks like the one here (although the vacuum control valve setup is slightly different).
1st the nylon finger as it is called which is pointed to on the cam. What's the part number etc. 2nd there is another nylon piece which depresses the "finger" when throttle is opened. What's the name of this piece and what is the part number. Both pieces seem warn. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the 2nd piece should be of increasing radius so that the more throttle is applied the more vacuum is created. Is this correct? Anyway right now it's not. Thanks!

Why don't you e-mail that picture to Phil ( FastLane )?
He'll set you straight. ![]()

1st question answered
Alright so the piece concerned is a vacuum3-2 valve and the "thing-a-ma-jig" is a "Vacuum valve lever". I'm still at a puzzle for the 2nd piece, but I'm sure Phil will come the rescue when he gets a spare moment.

Looks like that wasn't really the issue. I tested it with a mityvac and I'm getting a steady range of vacuum leak. That section looks Good. I expanded the range of the vacuum and tightened the bowden cable. That resulted in a longer shift range, but less flaring.
It stays in 3rd up until about 95 KM (55-60 miles) is that right?
