Changing Spark Plugs 1999 E 320

I have the following questions:
1) There is a metal boot cover on the plugs will a straight pull remove the boot?
2) Should an anti seize compound or oil be applied to the threads of the new plugs before installation ?
3) Should the engine be cold prior to changing the plugs ?
4) I have changed plugs on various cars using conventional tools does the E 320 require any special tools for the job ?

I just replaced plugs, wires, cap&rotor on my 84 380se and
did not need anything special to do it. But your dealing with
a 99 model and not sure if there is much more involved.
Why are you replacing wires on a 99 model already. I have been told the wires are normally good for 100,000 miles and
my new OEM wires came with a life time warranty

well you want to get a spark plug boot puller. they sell one here in the partsshop or fastlane.

I am not sure on the antiseize, but I always oil the threads lightly on the plugs in my cars, but I have not changed the plugs on the benz yet.

Generally I try to change the plugs when the engine is not hot enough to burn me. Cold or hot I don't know if it makes a difference, I've changed plugs on a cold engine and a hot engine, I don't think it makes a difference, but I havent done it to my benz yet.

Other than the usual plug tools, the spark plug boot puller is key. you can pull the wires out of the boots very easily if not done right.

The usual tools would include: ratchet, spark plug socket for the plugs, various sized extensions, a wobbler or angle attachment for those very hard to reach areas.

Othe than that, I think it will not be different than changing them on another car.

I'm not a tech, its just my opinion on it.

I'd have to agree with Alon. I recently changed the plugs on my 95s420 and did not spend the $35 for the spark plug puller. One of the plastic plug boots broke and I was left with the spark plug and metal boot still in the cylinder with only the wire attached, not to mention stray plastic fragments around the spark plug!

It was almost a near disaster had I not fashioned a special tool to reach into the spark plug cylinder and pull the boot out. I, of course, had to replace the wire after that.

Definitely buy the tool.

Spark plug boot puller, spark plug socket, wobble extension, socket-wrench, oil, and silicone spray. I oil the threads and spray silicone spray(WD-40) on insulator. Don't use anti-seize compound. Oil should suffice. Make sure not to overtighten and cross-thread when, screwing these plugs in.
