w126 sunroof removal

I need to take out my sunroof on the 300SE. I repainted the car, and am not happy with the coverage on the sunroof edges. When I search.. I find several threads saying to remove ...search, and lots of info...but I cant find it.
Can someone tell me how to fully remove it without the old tug & oops method I have been perfecting for years?
Thanks, Ken

Try **************.com

**************.com has a booklet for sunroof service and repair on 65 to 85 models that may help you. Basically you open the roof halfway. pull the liner off and detach the sunroof from the cable. Then the steel section can be removed. While you are in there you can clean the tracks and remove and clean the cable tube. The booklet shows you how to do that. They have a kit for all of that. Your car may be a little different because it is the two way sunroof but you may be able to call them and ask about that.

No, no you don't touch the cable on 1986-1991 W126 sunroofs.

I am rusty with the headliner I need to actually install mine. But you open it about half way and their are 4 clips that hold it in. They will break, they are cheap and plastic plan on replacing them. Once the clips are out you SHOULD be able to slide it forward. I don't remember any more tricks but it has been a year since I took one apart.

As for tha panal itself that is cake, close the sunroof and look up. You will see four gold bolts two on each side. They hold the panal to the metal bracket's that are attached to the slides. Remove the bolts and pull the panal back and out. It is held into the tracks by a couple of brackets. You will need to play with it a bit to get it out and back in.

Sunroofs are really not that complicated I don't see what the big deal is. I replaced both slides and that center fiberglass thing without any special tools or touching the cable.
