Haha. No, I only wish my engine looked that pristine. I had asked about that part (what Gary said is a canister) a while back, but I did not have any photos of my engine at that time. That was actually a photo of an engine in a 1983 380SEL. My actual engine is pictured below. I have never cleaned my engine, but I have cleaned engines in the past on other cars. Simple green always worked well on mine.

Not a big deal. Check that the hose clamps are tight, if they need repacement they are easy and cheap to replace, maybe $20 bucks of less.
