Lisa, I know the problem....its a Jaguar
No really, what is the problem exactly? Is it leaking? Is your engine ticking? Do you have loss of power? You need to elaborate on the problem |

The color of the oil sound like moisture, either from a coolant leak into the crankcase or from not being driven enough to get the oil hot and the water boiled off. The gas smell could be from running too rich.
I'd change the oil and then see if the symptoms return. Try this forum: jag-lovers.org (go to X300 part of forum)

Head gasket or a cracked head will cause this.

If the oil smells like gasoline & you have a fuelpressure regulator with a vacuum line going into the intake manifold, I would check it for a leaky diaphragm.

Have the cooling system pressure tested, this will verify if there is any issue with it |

I discussed this with my neighbor across the street.
He is currently a Mercedes technician at Penske Mercedes, but prior to this, he was a technician at the Penske Jaguar dealer for many years. He says that the Jaguar inline 6 engines are fantastic engines, but have the same problem with head gaskets that Mercedes has with its M103 and M104 inline 6 cylinder engines. It is very likely your head gasket.

another
possibility is a crankcase ventilation problem. i had this once on my volvo with the renault v6. it turned out to be a clogged vent tube. it took fifteen minutes to remove it and clean it out. no $.
so that is an inexpensive possibility. tom w

I guess the 1995-97's were the best years for the I6's. My grandparants had a 94 they dumped after a few years. Started burning oil like crazy leaving a cloud of blue smoke on start up. It was about 4 years old at the time and dealer serviced since new. AC broke all the time and, and the interior started coming apart. Grandma got pissed off and traded on a 98. 98 is a pos as well. Currantly it has a defect in the rear suspension that Jag can't fix and causes the rear tires to get chewed up. Then the cruise control decided to try for a land speed record on the highway.
But they sure are fine cars when the are running. Anyone who complains about fixing MB's has never owned a Jag. Jaglovers.com as said above is a great site, lots of good people over their.
