REcharging 123 A/c system

I have an a/c information leak in my head from reading so much about car a/c!

Anyway, my question is about how much oil to put in my 1983 240D. I have a new compressor, dryer and expansion valve and am going to flush the system with mineral spirits and a air compressor before reinstalling.

Yes, I got a NEW R4 compressor, not a rebuild. And I am using R12 - I HAVe 5 cans of it and a quart of mineral oil.

The mercedes manual bit about aC specs is at this page - http://skinnerbox.steaky.org/Service/W123/Index/Groups/83ClimateControlSystem.htm click on job 83-520 to see the specs. I don't understnad what it is saying. How much oil should I put where???? Yikes, I though this would be easier than this! If it s a new compressor, put 8oz in the compressor and 4 in the drier and be done with it??

Cheers!

according to mercedes 123 climate control book compressor should have 170cc (aprox 4 oz) I couldn't find the spec for the dryer but aprox 4 0z in there as well will be plenty. don't add too much or performance will suffer.

Worse than performance suffering...you could slug the compresser with oil that won't compress and destroy it if you put too much in....how much exactly would that take? I can't answer that.
