2001 SL320 Start problem

Hi Guys,
I have a SL320 which has a intermittant start problem, i have only had for a few month and in second week car went to limp home mode and wouldnt start once key removed.
Had looked at local mechanic who replaced battery and ignition switch, drove fine for 1 week, but this time would not start at all.
Got mechaninc out who kept trying and eventually it started, had diagnostics done and came out with codes 132, 133, 134 and 136 all under the ETC with CAN faults.
Mechanic now suggesting changing the transmission ECU and K38 relay, as you can imagine its all getting a bit costly, anyone out there with an idea of what it might be.

Kind regards,

Raj

A "No start symptom" must fall into one of two very distinct categories..

Engine cranks but does not start

Engine does not crank and does not start

Which of these two Symptoms best describe your complaint?

not cranking

Hi engine does not crank and does not start.

All dash lights on , new battery and ignition switch, if i keep trying then after 10-15 trys the car starts up again. It has also gone into limp home mode whilst driving and when turned of again wont start.

Thanks,

Raj

Isn't this vehicle fitted with dual batteries, one for starting and one for vehicle operations. With that said, did the correct battery get replaced? There may be some bulletins relating to the BCM (Battery Control Module), that may be a good avenue to investigate as well.

If it were me the first thing I would check is the main connecting circuits, I would confirm the integrity of all the power and ground circuits by conducting a number voltage drop tests. Lots of current needed to operate many different things, one loose connection and it is anybodies guess what symptoms will evolve.

Info

Had some info of another site, saying that it is connectors and one must be causing some problems along the way, will clean connectors and see what happens....
Any suggestions welcome as i am getting fed up with the thought of will it start or am i stranded.... already had it towed once.... Could it be the crank psoition sensor, or would that give differen faults? or may be a alternator?????????? how do i check

thanks guys

regards

Raj
