Headliner removal on wagon?

Vehicle is 1992 300 TE. I need to install new lift cylinders, struts, shocks or whatever they are call. I've removed necessary trim to expose area, but I'm not certain how to proceed.

Please see photo below. Do I need to remove more of the headliner, it would seem so. Also my information is struts come out forward, i.e., toward the front of vehicle, it that right? If I need to take more headliner off where do I start and how does it connect to rear most part of vehicle, I can not tell?
