They may be a bit stubborn to remove as age probably hardens the plastic so that gentle force doesn't cut it.
The switch(es) are also held in place by a large plastic bezel underneath the console (the one stapled to the wood). Tabs in the bezel allow removal of the switches. To remove, pull the tabs (located above and below the switch) outward and push the switch out away from the console, not towards...in other words, if the console were in place, you would PUSH the switch DOWN to remove.
This is easier to do if the harness is disconnected first. And as a precaution, disconnect the battery so that you don't accidentally short anything out. Do make sure you have the security codes for the radio if you do so...
