Cruise Control Question

My 79 450 SLC will not hold speed using the cruise control. If I move the crsuise control lever to the accelerate position, it will accelerate but it will not stay at a constant speed when I let go. What part in the system should I look at.
I am not famil;iar with Mercedes but have no fear of tackling automotive projects having just completed a 10 year long restoration of my 68 Corvette.
Please do not assume any Mercedes knowledge as I have done virtually nothing to this car in the 14 years I have onwed it. It is only driven approximately 1,000 miles per year.
Thank you for any assistance.
Kurt

Most likely cruise control amplifier....silver box located under dash by drivers foot well. About a $150 part rebuilt.

Do a search on this here, lots of info. You can probably fix the control box by re-soldering the 100+ connections on the printed circuit board. I did mine last year and it still works great. I used a low heat fine point iron and one of those illuminated magnifying glass lights (wife uses for jewellery work). You'll need to decide first if that's what you want to try, as the sellers of refurbished units won't accept a core that's been worked on.
