is this a sign?

My 2.3 88 190E,is acting wierd. Early mornings or first start of the day my car starts fine;I've even cut it off a couple of times to make sure and everytime it starts. Now, the problem is when after driving for while and car gets hot; I cut it off it takes about 5-6 turnovers to start. I this a sign for new plugwires or something else?

it could be

a hot start problem. a bunch of bosch injected cars suffered from this in the eighties.

or it could be a hot soak electrical problem. if that you need to check all your battery cables and clean and also the ground ends of them including the engine to chassis ground. sometimes on an older car you will need an extra ground strap from the battery to one of the starter bolts.

good luck

ok

the ground wires are two.

one is the battery to chassis. this is the negative battery cable. it will bolt one end to the battery the other end to the body (chassis) of the car. check and clean both ends.

the other will be from the engine to the chassis. this one is a woven flat wire with no insulation. not really big and usually is found at the end of the engine block near the fire wall. (that is the metal bulkhead that separates the engine compartment from the cabin of the car).

the starter is located near the bottom of the motor toward the firewall. the wiring accepting end of it is usually right under the battery for a short cable. some cars have batterys in the trunk, yours i doubt does.

if an auxiliary ground cable is installed it will be fastened under one of the two large bolts that hold the starter in place.

good luck

don't worry about the cables and wires. sounds like a fuel pump related problem. fuel pump relay and check valve are likely culprits.

Ok, I've just seen what the "fuel check valve" looks like; what would be the cause and effect(if this where an issue) of this screw with an hole through the center and side for fuel to travel to the filter? If being is can it be cleaned?

Not sure on your 190 but my hot start problem on my 380 was solved with new fuel accumulator, located in passenger rear wheel well area. I tcould also be the fuel pump check valve.
