My 1985 190e 2.3 just started idling erratically this week. It runs great other than that. Just had fuel pump replaced, engine has been tuned, injectors tested good and compression is excellent to all cylinders.

Any suggestions for things to look for that may point to the problem?

Thanks Brian

Have the motor mounts been changed?

You will have to take this one to a tech. The idle problems can be hard to get right the first time. I have seen so many different problems cause the same symptom.

Eratic idle, 190E

Vadrill. Have you checked the throttle butterfly valve return spring? This is in an almost inaccessible place beneath the inlet manifold, and sometimes has a habit of unhooking itself from the "inboard" arm of the butterfly valve.
I had all sorts of problems with idle speed and smooth acceleration until I discovered that the spring on my 190E 2.3 was missing altogether.

I have a 1987 2.3 16v. I had an idle problem. Can you say just what the problem is? If it is the same as the one I had I may be able to help.

Thanks for everyones help

I posted a reply a couple of days ago. It apparently didn't make it to the board.

As it turns out the mechanic who resoldered a wire on a fuel injector failed to reinstall the air breather hose attached to the bottom of the air cleaner attachment. I discovered this myself. It runs great now. Lost confidence in the mechanic though.

Again thanks for the replys.

Brian
