questions about w126 parts into a w123

Can I use the same parts from my 82 300sd in my 83 300d? my 300sd is dead, i have a extra engine and all the extra parts for the 300sd, alot of new parts, before i buy a 300d i just want to make sure i can use the same parts.

I have the 83 300SD and a 80 300D.
Not exactly the same situation.
But... As far as the 617 engine, I see a lot of stuff the same.
I used same motor mounts and oil filter and fuel filters.
Same brake pads too.

What kind of stuff (parts) are you talking about ?

Generally speaking a lot of stuff will work on both.

i am pretty sure the window regulators are different in the 126.

i have a similar situation here. i am running two 126 cars but i have a slew of 123 parts in stock. so every time i need somehting i call and ask if it is the same as on the 123 and many surprisingly minor parts dont interchange.

but many do too. just not body parts.

Front brake calipers and (vented) discs from a W126 will bolt onto a W123. Not so neccessary but easy to do and if you need to change your calipers/discs anyway??....

Very much the same and very much different

My brother has a 123 and I have a 126 both are equipped the same OM617 diesel engine. Apart from the engines they are quite different cars. My 126 has some 123 part numbers on some of the engine components. Im not sure if this was something from the factory or something from a previous owner. You should be able to use the engine and its parts along with wheels and tires. Driveline suspension body and interior are all different. The 126 was equipped with the 123's OM617 engine for the American market only to comply with federal fuel economy laws of the time.

Personally I think the diesel powered 126's are the perfect car. They are comfortable long lasting and great on fuel. If the 140's 3.5 engine was not known for bending rods my 140 would be a diesel as well.

Also you may not want to give up on the SD so quickly. Its really hard to kill one of these cars. Engines and Transmissions are quite abundant on the used market and can be installed rather cheaply. Unless the car has a lot wrong with it dropping an engine in it and putting a "biodiesel" ad in the paper might prove to be quite economically and ethically rewarding. I would find it rather difficult to cut up an SD unless it was a total basket case. SD's are not as common as the garden variety 300D.

HmmmmMm

Dunno,

Perhaps you could find some Mechanic that would be willing to trade some of your extra parts for the labor involved in doing the repairs that you need....... I could see killing the car if it were wrecked horribly but it sounds like its ailments are minor..... Perhaps you could put the whole car up for sale for someone else to buy as a project..... I bought my 300SD in pretty rough shape and have spent a lot of time and money to bring it back to life......
