89 300 SE Hesitates real bad!!!

89 300 SE hesitates real bad (only sometimes - very random).

I was thinking throtle position sensor but I'm not sure if this car has one - my local foreign parts store says no! But i have to believe it must?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Actually I just solved this problem on my car. Can you please post other symptoms you are experiencing? (Smoke, hesitation when warm/cold, how's the idle, does it start easy, etc...). Then maybe I'll see what I can offer.

Always starts poorly - dosn't matter hot or cold - no smell of gas - car runs fine otherwise. Will hesitate at one red light and be fine at the next. Car idles ok - a little low most of the time but dosn't stall.

Thanks

I had a similar problem on my '91 300se. I cleaned the idle control valve and that helped a lot. The car was also accelerating poorly, particularly in warm weather. I checked the idle mixture and it was running WAY to rich. I adjust back to about 35% duty cycle and it runs much better with crisp throttle response. These two maitnenace actions really helped. Unfortunately I still have the dreaded rough idle at start up. Still on the hunt for for that fix.
