common problem on m110 engines is aux air valve.they are not fun to replace.good way to check is to close off idle screw all the way and see if engine still running.if it is, most likely valve not shutting off.cold start valve not designed to even operate above 30f.there are a lot of air hoses under intake on that car.those hoses have petrified and need replacing[yes all of them]there is more rubber under the fuel distributor and it is most likely cracked.i think that your cold start up bad running will probably be traced to one of the above. lived in aussie for 27yrs never met anyone from tassie thought they were all out in the bush chasing tasmanian devils!

I did Chucks test and he was right. The car started much easier when cold after turning the air screw out and raising the idle.
I'm now trying to find a replacement Aux Air Valve. It was a B*!ch getting that thing off. I cleaned and inspected all those hoses and didn't find any to be cracked, and there wasn't any gunky build up inside of any of them either, but the outsides were all nasty. What a mess of hoses. You'd think they'd have made this system easy to work on like the rest of the car. (well at least easier access). |
