1999 E330D Shift Knob Replacement
I recently came across a very nice wood shift knob from a 1999 C280 which was available to me at a good price. Question now is, how do I get it into my car.
I read the post in the "Do-It-Yourself" section written by a member who had a 1989 (I think) Benz, but I'm not sure that procedure would apply to my car. Last thing I want to do is crack wooden veneers, coatings, etc. or otherwise bugger up the consol. The car is in too good a condition for that. Does anyone have a written procedure for removing/replacing the shift knob for a 1999 E-Series Benz? Thank you. Jack525 |

The shift knob on your car should look something like the above (probably all leather with a plastic black piece at the bottom instead of chrome) To remove just the knob, twist the black plastic piece on the bottom (chrome in the pic above) clockwise (when looking from the top) about 1/2 turn and then push it down (off the knob). The knob should pull up/off now. Install is reverse, put the bottom plastic (or chrome) piece on first, slide the new knob on, and push the plastic/chrome piece up on to the knob and twist about 1/2 counter clockwise.
