Can 722.6 Trans control modules be swapped?
Hi,
I went to see the dealership today... regarding the vibrations in torque lockup.. they have checked everything they can... fluid topped up - adaptation reset, the lot. Still vibrating.... and if this forum is anything to go by - the TCM is next... So I then called an independant expert, and asked him if he had a TCM... he said no... and then he said they need coding the car chassis number and you can only do it once per TCM!... so does that rule out REcoding a used one? The guy was a bit of an idiot to be honest, and he was adament the gearbox torque converter was shot... which just doesnt add up really... I can't beleive its come to this... the choice of gambling £500 on a fix that might not do anything... and no-one understanding or hearing of the problem before.... what a nightmare. I really wanted to *like* this car, if you know what I mean... I've forgiven it for a lot of other stuff thats gone wrong... bu this takes the biscuit. Mike Devon, UK |

What year is the car? I know of some of the early controllers causing the problem. Is it a 97 model year?

Hi there,
Yes it is a 1997 MY. The controller part number is "A026 545 96 32" I can get hold of a TCM from a W210 E280... with the part number of "019 545 78 32"... I don't know if I can use the same TCM as the E280, however its all irrelevant if they can't ever be used on another car anyway. Thanks for your input. Kind regards, Mike |

The TCMs are variant coded, engine, chassis and rear ratio information ARE factory program. The transmission soft wear operating strategy in the TCM is calibrated to the valve body, If the valve body were updated, the TCM would be flash with the up dated operating soft wear to support the up dated shift strategy in the valve body.
For the TCM to work PROPERLY it would have to come out of a LIKE VEHICLE, same engine, and rear ratio and have the same valve body calibration. More reading material http://www.peachparts.com/shopforu...216#post173216 Last edited by C32AMG; 04-29-2006 at 07:05 AM. |
