Another question on 1993 190E 2.6
I just purchased the car about 2 weeks ago. I has 100K miles on it. This just started 2 days ago. When it is cold, the tranny (automatic) doesn't upshift for about a 1000'. Then it is fine and shifts normally. I checked the fluid and it is at the correct level and it appears to be very clean. Any ideas.
I would appreciate someone responding. Thanks! |

As I recall, mine did the same thing, and it is normal. The transmission delays the upshift when the engine is cold to help the engine warm up faster.

Its actually to warm the emissions system (cat) up faster to bring the car into **closed-loop** mode.
This is perfectly normal.

Thank you!!!!
Skiier 3_9, George, and Arthur- Thank you very much for your quick replies.
The 1993 sits about 2 inches lower than my '86 190E. Plus it has black high bolster seats with red inserts in the front and back and a carbon fiber look- alike on the dash and console where the wood would be. This can't be original, can it? |
