outside temp readout off by 40 df

Help! My 1995 C280 digital readout for outside air temp is waaaaaaay off.
Where is the sensor and what could be the problem- Thank you!

see if the sensor may have been installed behind the bumper close to the engine area,

Might also be the LCD display unit that goes in the instrument cluster.
