Hello all:
I did a search here and didn't find anyone with a similar problem. On a recent 250 mile trip (mostly highway) the transmission sometimes wouldn't change into the highest gear. This problem was intermitent. At about 60 mph, I would have to put the gear selector into neutral, then into drive before the transmission would find the proper gear. Since returning, I haven't noticed the problem. I did drive today on the highway for about an hour with no problems. Any ideas?

Any thoughts on this? Rebuilt Aamco tranny 20,000 miles ago (I just bought the car and tranny is 2 months out of warranty, Aamco being unhelpful). Car misbehaved on drive back from San Diego to LA slipping between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th (engine free revving) I got it working by moving shift to 3rd then back to D. Worked fine when cold and when up at freeway speeds so was usable.
Local shop serviced the tranny this week (new filter, fluids) now it won't shift up from 2nd at all. Shop wants to sell me a 'governor overhaul' for $500. When I bought car 2 months ago there was no sign of problems to my eye/ear everything seemed fine and seller seemed honest. I paid a guy $100 to check everything out and he didn't find any problems ... but then he knew less than me and that's not much. Q1. How do I go about getting this problem fixed quickly and without getting screwed further? Q2. Who do I then sue to recover my costs! Any thoughts gratefully received. Mark 1995 E320 Sedan. |

Sorry about your troubles. Mine seemed to clear up after that road trip, so I haven't worried about it. Maybe it was a one-time thing.
BTW, not sure you can sue for anything. Simply bad luck.
