1993 190E 2.6 questions
Howdy,
I have a couple of questions that I hope you all can help me out with. my car has 130,000 miles on it (just bought it) do not have complete car records. My first question deals with A/C and engine hesitation. When car is cold (but also sometimes when it's hot) and I am running the A/C and I try to accelerate from a dead stop or less then 10 MPH, the car really hesitates to go. It almost seems as if its going to shut down on me. Any ideas??Same when I am at a stop light, I almost feel that if I sit there too long with the A/C on, that as soon as I hit the gas, the car will shut off...if I am idling the more I idle the more the car's RPM's go up and down between 500-750 is this normal?? Two questions in regards to oil sensor and leak. The leak seems to be at top of the air filter, hose that comes from engine into air filter, oil seems to accumulate on top of cover (not realy much, but enough) and also when I went on a trip with the car it seemed that every 400+ miles, the low oil sensor would come on...............I don't think that the engine goes through oil like it is indicating, no black smog or anything like that. This happened while driving back home so I would stop and add about a quart of oil to the engine........any ideas?? Could it be a faulty sensor?? There are also no other oil leaks. Gas mileage fairly poor with A/C on, is this normal?? I mean it seems to be worse then normal. Thank you for your input. Andy |

Just like any car START with basics...engine tune-up for secondary ignition system..plugs, dist cap & rotor, & wires...with the plugs removed have the compression checked. Don't forget the fuel & air filters.
If you are still having problems then have the oxygen sensor & the duty cycle checked & adjusted if needed.

And just like any car when the AC Compressor is on it creates a huge draw on the engine. Even though you have a 2.6 you will still have a draw due to it. Does the car hesitate when the AC is off? If not then it is the AC, it takes a second for the Climate Control to sense you hit the gas and disengage the AC Clutch. Even my W203 with the lil 4 banger in it has a huge draw due to AC, so much so it makes it jerky shifting the 6 speed due to Rapid RPM Drop when you let off the gas. I do not drive it enough with the AC on to get used to how much extra go pedal I need to keep it smoother. No biggie but I do know when I want to take off it does hesitate for a split second due to Compressor cut-off.
The W201 is supposed to disengage the Compressor under 2000RPM, except when at idle, and also when floored so that you have more power. But with an engine that may need a tune-up or some fuel injector cleaner the hesitation will be amplified. As for the oil sensor, have you actually verified the level of the oil at the dispstick?

Thank you for your answers
As far as the oil sensor, I have checked the oil level pretty much every other day and oil level is the same.
I will take the car to get a major tune up next week. I had the A/C on tonight and I was at a complete stop and i push the pedal all the way and sure enough, the car almost died on me. It doesn't do it when I have the A/C off, just when I have it on. Bugs the crap out of me.....................I also have a '93 BMW 325is that I have owned since new...............talk about night and day comparison between the two cars. The BMW everything, seems about 10 years ahead of the Mercedes..................still enjoy the Mercedes ride, very comfortable except when I get to the stop light and It feels like it is going to die on me (when A/C on) or when I accelerate from a dead stop. ![]() |

Sparks coming out of the spark-plugs connection
Ok, so I was going to check the transmition fluid to see if it was full............well as I am doing that I see that the spark-plug (2nd from the back) at the connection to the engine is sparking from the metal connection (wire) to the engine block
![]() I know this is bad, but what the hell does it mean...................time to change the wires I gather?? HELP |

Most likely your plug wires need replacing.
See if you can isolate your wires and increase the engine performance. A spark plug wire or a coil wire grounding out will decrease your engine performance. I recently found I had a coil wire that was grounding out (it wasn't routed as to be isolated from engine metal). Immediately after re-routing it the car ran better. Haasman 93 190e 2.6
