The rebuilders make their own diaphragms and good luck buying one from them:-/

That is what I was thinking. I have never heard of a 1990 380SE. I have not ever even heard of a 1980 380SE. I was thinking that the 380 was from 1981-85 only in the USA and was in the "SEL" form in 81-83 and "SE" from 84-85, as the "SEL" for 84-85 had the 5.0L engine.

Me too I am interested to know where to buy a repair kit for the FD (W124, 260E, 1988). There has been somebody who posted the repair of a FD, don't remember who he was, very interesting. May be somebody can help.

Hello
Thank you for the reply. Yes, I asked my sister, and she said "1990 380 sel".
She lives in the asia country, and I could not send her the whole unit (fuel distributor). First, the prize for the fuel distributor is skyrock. Second, the prize is not cheap for the shipping due to the weight of the fuel distributor. I am thinking to remove the diaphragm out for shipping, if I could find a fuel distributor for a reasonable prize. Last, I am wondering how I know that diaphram is in good condition.
Please show me where do I look for good used fuel distributors. Thanks.

Thumbs up

I completely tore one down about six weeks back, reminded me of a valve body internally. Anyway, there are some cats on ebay that rebuild them for about $300 USD plus shipping. EMS shipping to Asia shouldn't be that expensive...

If the diaphragm's shot, chances are there's water in the fuel system. There's no point in rebuilding or replacing the fuel distributor until you have isolated the source of the water, completely cleaned the entire fuel system - and that involves at the very least draining and flushing the fuel tank, fuel lines and all components - and ensured that the system will remain water free in the future.

If you don't do this, and I speak from experience, you will need to replace the fuel distributor again and again until you do. And as you point out, they are not cheap items.

Having said that, fuel distributors don't go wrong that often if the system is kept free of moisture, although there's always a chance of the diaphragm going slack over high mileage. A secondhand unit is a cheap and entirely acceptable alternative to a new unit, just inspect the exposed connection points for signs of water contamination. Any form of corrosion, don't buy it.

For what its worth, I spent more than a year trying to find out where water was getting into my fuel, turned out to be a corroded charcoal filter which was filling up with water every time it rained due to a broken windshield drain hose. Cost me three FDs and various other fuel bits along the way.

Try listing a "WTB" thread in the Parts section.
