Not totally an MB question

Hey Guys,

My wife and son both are BMW - holics. Just replaced my wife's 325is w/a 330i.

Two questions I am going to ask here, because I believe there are others with households divided like mine.

1. There used to be a site you could go to for MBs, type in your VIN, and get a printout of the options your car was sold with. Since I did not get that sort of info on our used 330i, I am wondering if anyone here knows of such a site where you can get the same sort of info on BMWs?

2. I have not yet found a BMW site that is formatted like this one (which is clearly the best MB site there is), or that is devoted to overall care and maintenance of BMWs (most are more performance-oriented, at least most that my son sends me to.) Anyone know of a BMW site even remotely comparable to this one?

Sorry for going off the reservation here - just thinking others might have trod this path before me.

Thx.

Hmmm,

I had an interest in 850ci and 840ci cars for a while and looked for a suitable forum..... I did not have much luck...... Most of the forums I found were people exchanging stories about how illegally they drove their cars or other forums dealing with technical modifications for speed increases..... While I like some of the older BMW's I don't really fit the mold of a BMW driver...... I think one of the reasons the older 7's and 8's are so scary is due to the lack of forums like this one..... Most of the information you will get in a BMW forum is information passed on through a dealership's service department..... There are some people on this forum im sure that work on their 220 body S class cars frequently......

BMW's are also engineered differently.... I have a friend who had a 1999 328... He had a drivers seat sensor go bad and it disabled all 6 airbags in the car.... Mercedes engineers have a little more sense than that..... If the car is traveling down the road at 60mph it likely has a driver in the seat..... If there is no driver airbags deploying in empty seats are the very least of your problems.......

Well, it was most likely due to lawsuits. I belive the sensors are there to shut off the airbags for small light fragile individuals, minor crash with airbag deployment will kill children and small adults.
