190e Engine Black Smoke??
My Black 190E (not on eBay right now) has a problem 89 190E 2.6L gas/auto
When it starts in the 60 degree morning, it runs delightful. Idle is smooth, no smoke at exhaust, picture perfect. After it warms up, the engine is shaking all over, rattling the driver, and smoke is puffing lightly from the tailpipe. I checked the signal at the 02 sensor, it was basically full rich. It was not waivering like my other 190E does. It was steady, the engine stumbled and shook. It has brand new H9DC plugs gapped at .32. I swapped all the wires from another 190E i have. I removed the dist cap and rotor and filed the contact points to a brilliant shine, and cleaned it. Still the problem remains. A ParkPlace Mercedes Tech came over and I asked him about this problem, he said that he sees it often. The fuel distributor head goes bad and is constantly pumping too much gas. It runs good at startup because it needs more gas, then when warm, it tries to modulate the fuel/air ratio but cannot due to the bad fuel distributor head. Can anyone confirm this? Is this a common issue? Can there be another thing to check on? Any help on this topic surely would be appreciated. After it is fixed, it will be the next on eBay. Click my link on my signature to see my green one. Good luck Bidding ![]()
