300TD driver's side rear sag

I've read the threads and still the questions keep me up at night - what is the correct procedure for diagnosing the self-leveling system? I am aware of the high pressure and am willing to stop before I enter the domain of the professional but wondering - is there anything I can do to ascertain the problem?
