Just bought my first Mercedes, and I love it!!! '84 500 SEL "European". Unfortunately the "European" part of this car poses a small dilemma... where to get shop manuals, wiring diagrams, parts manuals, etc. written in english for this car???? I love the car but I am not ready to learn German at the present time! Can anyone out there help?

For a start, get the car's Owner Manual (if you don't already have one) from any MB dealership. Second of all, you can buy the Shop Manual from here at PartsShop!!! They are all the most current versions, are the best priced, and ship the fastest.

You should get the 126 CD-Rom. Most of the car will be the same as the CD (which is basically for US cars). If you have hydraulic suspension get the 116 chassis CD as the 6.9 suspension is the same. Wiring and A/C control will be a problem especially if you have a stripped model (US cars got all the options and only automatic air). I have a book on euro cars wiring and it s**ks. It is like all the old diagrams where all systems are placed on one page.

My best source for european models is on Bosch microfilm which is hard to view at a distance.
