reprinted MB shop manuals

Just wanted to let fellow MB enthusiasts know that many MB shop manuals are available at www.schiffeuropean.com. They reprint the original manuals. I talked with them and asked why mercedes official site wouldn't tell me about them. He answered that mercedes wants to sell their new CD 's. He said that if you inform them that you don't have a computer they will then steer you toward's their site. I managed to find eng and chassis manuals for my car(103 eng and 124 chasis) on ebay but paid more than I would have liked. They were in excellent condition but I paid $200.00 for the eng and two part chasis manual. The same manuals new from Schiff would have been 89.95 for the eng and 169.95 for both chasis manuals. Hope this info is of help

Question Reprints?

Just a word of caution! Did you look at any of these "reprint" manuals? Do they have a printed notice that they are printed with permission of the copyright holder? Did you call MBUSA and ask them for authorized "reprinters"? Many of the "reprinted" manuals are simply disassembled and copied on a Photostat machine so sometimes the quality is not as good as it would be with a true "printed" version. My point is at these exorbitant prices you should know exactly what you’re getting. Looks like you got a better deal with original material on E-Bay, both in quality and financially! Caveat Emptor!

quality of reprinted manuals

Enclosed is an answer to an e-mail I sent to Schiff inquiring about the quality of their reprinted manuals. "Our reprints are the digital images of the paper originals. The photographic quality is identical. All reprints are spiral bound. Mercedes-Benz of North America sends customers to us for our reprints. Barry Schiff " They have been in business for almost 20 years so I think they are probably doing something right.

eating humble pie on reprinted manuals

I want to take this opportunity to pass along some info I received from someone who has done business with Schiff and has seen the quality of the reprints in comparison to the originals. According to them the quality of the reprints isn't even close. The testament to their quality was from Barry Schiff himself after I e-mailed him about them. It doesn't sound as though they are "authorized" either. Let me reference the closing comment in the response to my first post-BUYER BEWARE. I'm new to this site having just purchased my 1989 260e last August; so I'm still getting my feet wet as far as MB parts and related stuff. Tom
