where do i go from here 2.3 lost compression

have 87 190e 2.3, ran good on way home started missing, when i stop the engine shook the whole car, pulled off one plug wire no change in engine running, plug firing, repeated this to 2nd cyl. same, the engine would run and idle about the same with 2 plug wires off, checked compression on 1st cyl no reading where should i go from here????????????

No reading of compression whatsoever?? I would check again and all 4 cylinders. Losing compression is gradual and not only on one trip to home...

Just my opinion

the type of compression tester was a cheap one the kind you hold to plug hole not a screw in type, i checked the 3rd cyl. it started to rise when first turning over engine, it turned 4 several seconds but never got 2 the min. compression lbs.
if i had dropped a valve wouldnt it be knocking, i also removed the valve cover just 4 a visual inspection couldnt see anything out of ordinary, also put in new rotary button and cleaned dist. cap

.I don't understand how people can make something as easy as checking compression in an engine so difficult. Pull the green or black wire going to the ignition module on the drivers side fender off. Turn the car over, does it sound even? If it does, then you have the compression in all cylinders. If you sucked a valve, you would not have made it home. I'll bet you it is just a tune problem, or you have a bad injector.

maybe not. i would not think it was definate as to whether you got home with a broken valve. i suspect there are many ways a valve can break.
