Looking into a c280 1999 Sport

What should I look for in terms of problems?
They are asking 14,400cdn, 138k kilometers= 90k miles?

Can someone tell me what came with the sport trim, besides the wheels.

The biggest problems to worry about with a 1999 c280 (or any other used car) would be the previous owners. If you find one with reasonable mileage that has been cared for (with the records to prove it), you'll have yourself a great ride. Some common gotchas are AMM, crankshaft position sensor, fuel pump relay. There is a service campaign for the harmonic balancer: It's official. Harmonic Balancer Service Campaign released 4/5/05)
If it has the original battery, don't wait for it to fail(it won't be long), get a new one. You will have to re-code the radio and re-synchronize the windows and sunroof. Also, service the sunroof with the correct MB lube.
Good Luck, Dan

Last year at this time I purchased a 1999 C230 with records and low mileage. Like a new car without the damage in the wallet!

The deals are out there, just be patient and look carefully.

I love mine! Its been in the family since new, and religiously cared for. It has covered 204K miles thus far. Thanks to a garage, and regular washing and detailing it looks better than most other older w202's on the road now. Many people think it is a new car. It still drives like a new car, and the sport suspension brings out some otherwise muted roadholding capabilities.

The w202 is one of the more solid cars MB has made within the past 10 years, you wont regret your purchase. Just make sure it has been cared for.

I like the 97 and older straight 104 6 engine vs. the V6. You should be able to pick up a nice one for less than $8000 usd.

what is a AMM?
Are there any other problems with this car besides the listed ones..also can someone tell me what is the difference between the sport trim and the elegance trim.

I also found a 98 c280 sport trim..with only 109km, are these cars the same?
I

Major differences are:

Sport models offer stiffer suspensions, different trim, and different wheels than the elegance versions. 1995-97 Sport models came with 15"/7" AMG Monoblocks, deleted exterior chrome trim, and false carbon fiber dash inlays instead of the zebrano or burl seen in elegance spec C-classes. Sport models also feature "sport" front seats, which I think are made by recaro yet retain the same styling as other MB's of the era.

1998-2000 Sport models offered the same trimmings, but with 6 spoke 16/7" "sport" wheels.

The elegance models have 15" 8 hole alloys, wood interior trim, chrome ext. trim, and stock non-sport suspension.

AMM

Air mass meter? More commonly known as MAS, which is the mass airflow sensor, a simple replacement as it is located in the air intake to the filter.

Yup, on the Mercedes in question the sensor measures the air mass, but not air flow. Hence, it's an Air Mass Meter, not a Mass Airflow Sensor.

sad c280

I need some help I hit a curb in the middle of the road. Bottom of the oil pan damaged and was changed out. They started it up and it sounded great. An hour later the Mec. called and said I had a lick behind the crankshaft. He said it was the seal and it had to be replaced. when he did that it started making a load noise. Is that the end of the road for my baby or something miner.
Sad in Tex
P.S I have to great back to Ca. soon and need your advice.

belhover,
Welcome to the forum.
What year is the car? It can make a difference.

Important>>>You need to start a new thread for this.

If you have an urgent problem, hijacking an old thread won't get you much help.
Good Luck, Dan
