Lightbulb Thanks for your post and more

Thanks to M.B. Doc for the Klima relay pinouts. The Kilma in my 1985 300D is not turning on the compressor because the AC (Alternating Curent) signal from the EGR control Unit to pin 2 of the Kilma is missing. I tested the engine speed sensor with a scope and get a good sine wave out. The fault would seem to be inside the EGR control unit and this fault is also suggested by the fact that the tach is not working. In addition the clock is not working but this may be a separate problem. Fuses F2 and F12 are both good.

Has anyone else had a fault in the EGR control unit shut down the air conditioning in a 1985 300D?

OF course the overvoltage relay MUST power-up that EGR control unit FIRST.

Have seen several (EGR units) "swimming" in water due to leaking windshield seal..under right outer kickpanel.

Lightbulb About Overvoltage Protection Relay

Thanks again to M.B.Doc for very helpful information. I understand your point that the Overvoltage Protection Relay must be functioning and the 10 amp fuse on top of the relay must be good (It is good). It would appear that the relay could be tested out of the car by applying 12V to pin 6, ground to pin 5 and then use an ohmmeter to check path from pin 1 to pin2 with and without the applied voltage to the relay coil.

I suspect there is some electronics inside that relay can that can be damaged but this test seems safe. Do ou agree?
PS This car is dry as a bone but I understand your point.
Thanks.
