defective display: engine control unit
Hi,
I recently purchased a used 2001 E320 Sport. The other day when I was driving it on the display I got the "Defective Display: Engine control unit" warning, i checked the manual and it says it may be the cruise control, some sensors... or other things. Is there anything I can do/check on my own without taking it in? Is it ok to drive? Thanks! George

Has the car had the instrument cluster replaced recently? I've seen incorrectly programmed clusters cause the "Display Defective" message. You'll need an SDS to check. Specifically, the "CAN ID" setting should be checked. It should be set to either "CAN ID 310" or "CAN ID 312", I don't remember which. Try both settings and see which one makes the warning message go away. Let us know what happens.
