Here's a silly problem I guess, but maybe you can keep me from trying to fabricate something in my garage.

Behind both the front seats and the middle seats in the wagon, above the windows, there are fittings on each side of the car's interior that, according to my local MBZ dealer, are there for the cargo net/divider that was an accesory option when the car was new. These fittings apparently receive the cargo net portion of the divider. The dealer wants $1250 for a divider, plus installation. I'm not about to pay that kind of money for a divider, especially one that I don't think will keep a determined dog from coming over the seats and trying to join me in the front of the car.

I want a good, sturdy divider that will keep the family dog in the back end. I purchased an aftermarket divider that shoves a wire screen up into the headliner, and I'm afraid that I will eventually damage the headliner if I continue to use it. Does anybody know of a good, high-quality "dog-proof" divider that won't screw up my interior? Otherwise, I was going to try to make something in the garage that will use those fittings to run a bar from the left side of the car to the right, and attach the screen to the bar.

Any suggestions (other than to take out a loan) are appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

W124 E320 Wagon Divider

did you ever get a good answer to this question - fence for your dog?

my gsd puppy is outgrowing crates, and i'd like a nice clean solution as well.

The headliner for wagons runs about $1200, if it is causing damage remove it now. I have not seen any items as you described available recently. How about using a short leash through one of the aft tie downs that reaches to the back of the seat only?

I have one of the MB units which serves as a dog guard and baggage cover, it works fine. Try to get a used one from a junk yard. Train your dog not to attempt to get through the barrier. Every time it tries to get through say no very sharply. If that doesn't work have someone sit on the back seat and whack it on the nose with a folded newspaper, the dog will learn very fast.

What you are all referring to is the double roller blind that attaches to the back seat. It is a carge net and cover. The two attachements positions are for the carge net in the two positions of the backrest, upright or folded. Don't for one minute think of it as a dog guard (unless you have a very small dog!) its purpose is to prevent small objects coming forwarsd in a crash.

So far as I am aware it is a standard fitment on all estates (wagons), not an extra

$1250 is probably the right price new, I was quoted about £600 2 years ago. If your dealer wants to charge you for fitting, he's an arsehole, you fit and remove it yourself by simply sliding it onto the fittings in the left side backrest.

Take motard's advice, I paid £40 for mine.
