Window Regulator or Motor W124 300E

Hello,

Looking for opinions.

Car is the 1986 300E and has 208k on the clock. Driver’s Window is slow down and normal going up. If I put pressure down on it to ‘help’ it it goes down as fast as the Passenger’s ‘known good’ window. If stopped part way down, I can move it up and down about an inch.

Is this the regulator or the motor?

Thanks!

could be gunked up....

i don't see it being a motor.... why mess with it?

or else...pull off the door panel and see if it's gunked up with grease and dirt....

Nobody is guessing because this is not the common window problem. I'd be inclined to guess that it's not the regulator, more likely something with the motor. I'd take the door panel off and see if you're getting 12 volts at the motor. Give it 12 volts, see if it behaves consistently in both directions without the regulator attached. You obviously don't have a complete motor failure - could well just be something that's dirty.

based on the car's age and mileage, I wouldn't be surprised that the regulator or the motor is about to give way. Plus, after probable constant usage, the motor is gettin' old...

my motor was weak

Had a similar problem on my 380sel. Really slow going down, but went up with no problem. Mine also made a noise on the way down. Upon inspection, the motor got some water in it. I cleaned it out with electrical cleaner, and swapped it with the passenger side. The noise quieted down for awhile but is now back. Still works slowly down and no problem going up. I rarely use on the pass. side, but used the drivers side all the time. It works great.
