Question Steering Linkage Problem

i have a 1994 e320 and i recently installed a new steering linkage and damper. However when I installed the steering linkage, It was still very loose and could be easily moved back and forth. Could the new steering linkage have been a defective part, or is that the way its supposed to move. I remember when i changed the tie rods, they dont move as easily as this linkage. Please any information on this is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Can you isolate the looseness? Start by holding the steering shaft from the cabin and see if there's play in the steering box. Then move along each junction to find where there's play. Check also the idler arm bushings.

I only speak from doing ball joints and tie rods on my C-class.

But did you tighten up all the bolts with the tires suspended off the ground? I am thinking that may be the problem. I found that having the tires/suspension loaded with the cars weight allowed me to tighten up difficult bolts with greater ease.

Also when you drive the car is the steering way more accurate than before.

I know I didn't answer your ? but though it may be a good tip.
