Could it be the Fuel Pumps (yes two)
The car runs fine, or it stales or it just won’t start.
The most common symptom is that it will drive over 60 MPH it just won't accelerate to 60 very fast. My first thought is that the fuel pump may be slicking or such. The car has two pumps in-line. One on bottom is somewhat noisy. No big grinding noise. Your thoughts and suggestions. I was considering replacing the noisy pump, then thought - hmm, (old wine skin bible story) perhaps I should replace both. Are there other common causes for these symptoms? Thanks 1993 - 500SEL, 183,000 miles Original fuel pumps on the car. Anymore I have it in my driveway, waiting ot be fixed, just don't trust it. Was going to have it towed to the shop, but am considering one shot at fixing it first. Thanks for the suggestion. I may be off base trhinking it's the Fuel Pump. ![]()

Do a fuel pressure test and check the filter .. a clogged filter will results in a strain [ noisy] on the pumps..........

Pump was just changed 5,000 miles ago
the pump making the noise is nearest the filter
may be worth a try - local auto parts store will have a filter.

Based on your symptoms just about the last thing I would think of would be a fuel pump problem. As with most things, anything is possible.

The answer is in - Both Fuel pumps
Took car to the mechanic - who tested the pumps.
Seems one wasn't working, and the other was partially working. use this as research for future problems
