1992 500sl convertible top hydraulic fluid replacement - need help
I've replaced a leaking lift cylinder on my 500sl convertible. There was a significant amount of fluid lost. Does anyone know if there is a fluid resevoir and/or how to add new fluid?
thanks, P.K. |

The reservoir is under the spare tire under a plastic cover. I've not personally added any, but in reading on this site people are pretty picky about what kind of fluid to add. The recommendation is to get MB fluid.
Hope this helps!

Thanks,
I would never have found it. It's just about empty. My CD says I need MB343 fluid, so I'll get that. thanks again P.K. By the way my SL is black with the same color gray bottom as yours |

The BOW latches above the windshield are notorious for leaking as well and are not difficult to replace. If yours have not yet failed, replacing them now would prevent oil from dripping into someone's lap when they go...
Phil at FastLane can help you out on the parts. The black SLs are really great looking! My wheels are from a 2003 SL500. It was a trick to come up with lug bolts that were the right length.
