E240 2000 Fan failure message

Today my 2000 E240 showed a engine failure message- check with dealer. I proceeded to shut down the engine and upon restart it was gone. Had the engine idle for a while and temp did not increase. Blower seemed to work. Is it possible CPU just throws random "wrong failure"????? What should I do??
Thank you,
Reinhard, in Vienna

I started my 01 E320, got the fan message, started it again it was there, and then went away. I took it to the dealer they read the codes and replaced the fan and motor.
Thank you fot the 8 year 100,000 mile warranty, it was $2000 four years ago. I have used it for a defective dimming mirror, two regulators, and now the fan.
