1988 560SL Center console wood removal

Drivers side power window switch not working. Have no idea how to remove the wood console, but I am certain there is likely an easy way to do it. Any help would certainly be appreciated.

remove carpet from console. unscrew rear screw for wood panel. remove ashtray. unscrew ashtray frame at rear. may want to put some tape on forward part of wood before you remove ashtray frame cause if not careful can scratch wood. with frame removed, two screws at forward section of wood are exposed. remove them. wood now has to slide towards rear of car but this is complicated by the mirror switch so a "little" pressure with an upward motion is needed when sliding backward. good luck.

1988 560SL Center console wood removal

Thanks ever so much for your response. I still, however, am having problems. The ashtray has been removed and screws for both the frame and the forward section of the wood have been removed (thanks for the taping hint).
Firstly,I could not locate the rear screw for the wood panel after removing the console carpet nor any screw holes, I am likely overlooking something. Secondly, I just can't seem to remove the ashtray frame. It appears on the left side of the ash tray frame there is a little knob there for the electrical component of the ashtray and I just can't seem to figure it out. Thanks again for your help.

To remove the power window switch you dont have to remove the wood. The switch can be removed by carefully compressing the forward or aft end of the switch plastic retainer with a tiny screwdriver.

Thanks for your help. Yesterday I couldn't seem to get the lighter frame out. This AM it took less than a minute. Once again Thanks.
