e320 transmission control module

I've recently had an issue with my e320. When the tranny shifted it has a delyed harsh engagement. MY check engine light was also on. The dealer (whom I don't always trust 100%) stated that I had an internal fault with the transmission control module. Replacement would be $864.00 parts and labor.

This sounds extreme in price. I'm also wondering if this is something that I could replace relatively easily.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

What year E320 are you inquiring about?

It's a 2000 model.

Thanks,

Hey Mike,
It's fairly easy to replace those but you need the Mb software to transfer all the data over. Those ETC modules are pretty pricey, the quote sounds about right.
As far as not trusting the dealership 100% I understand. But Dave Holt has a new tech who came from Portand (where I am) who is a master guilde and a really nice guy. He's likely to be one of the best in Oregon if you ask me. His name is Aaron and he can be trusted......that's if you take advise from random people on-line. Good luck.

At $850 that’s a deal, in NY its $1200 for the module and $350 to down the software. Let them do the complete job, you will have updated software, you don’t want to up load corrupt data into a new module

Good to know about Dave Holt. I really like the Service Manager but have had some questionable service experiences. With your recommendation I will defintely go ahead with the repair.

$1200 in New York! Geeze.

Mike M.
