Last MTP-93 I bought at NAPA cost me about $93. For $125, I'd probably get an Optima.

I'd get one at WalMart. They have very good batteries. Plus with all this all this WalMart bashing they need the support. I feel bad for them. If we don't support them they will not have the profits and capital needed to expand into more small towns. There's several small towns where they don't even have a store yet let alone a superstore.

While some folks may say otherwise, I gotten excellent service from AC Delco batteries. The wifes caddy went over 6+ years and the suburbans' lasted 7 years on the original batteries. I replaced them both with the same. The one in my old GMC is 4+ years and going strong. Just put one in our SL this spring.

My brother sings the same praise of the Interstate brand.

I've had so-so experience with Wal Mart brand. They never last as long and they are rated for. At least the few I've had never did.

Here is my problem with Interstate batteries. There are two prices on each battery, a list price and a sell price. If you buy a battery, and it goes bad before the warranty expires, they pro-rate a new one. But they pro-rate at the list price, not the sell price. So if you buy a battery for $100 the list price might be $150. If you have to pay 50% for the new one, you pay 50% of $150 not $100. So you fork out $75 instead of $50. I don't know the exact numbers and I don't know if they still do this so you might want to look into it and read the fine print before you deal with them.

I believe that is the retailers choice, unless of course you are getting it directly from interstate.

If you want a MB battery do this:
Call MB roadside and say your battery died, can I get another. Many people have been bought new battery's by MB roadside, plus they seem to install them for free!!

I really want to try this, I think they charge you $130 for the battery. But talk about hassle free, you can sit inside and watch TV as the whole battery thing is delt with.

What battery to buy....

Don't you have to sign up for the MB roadside assistance???

I had to call AAA last night when I went out to get diesel and it didn't start after I turned the engine off. I did jump start the car that evening and went for a long ride before getting fuel.

While I'm at the dealership I'll ask about roadside assistance.

As for the batteries I got the following prices:

Interstate $124.90
MB $125.00
Deka (NAPA) $99.00 - $6.00 (for the core)

Add tax to the above prices.

Thanks,

No, MB roadside assitance applies to every MB ever built. And it doesn't matter if your the original owner or the 100th.

Batteries.

Since owning Mercedes for 26 years, this is my take on the batteries

I have owned Mercedes, Oreilly's, Walmart, Sears, Interstate etc.
I find that it depends on where you are located. When my son was going to College in Stillwater, Oklahoma we got a Walmart battery since it was easiest for him if he had a problem. My daughter has a Oreilly's battery in the 240D, Easiest for her in College Station at A&M. I have Mercedes batteries in the SL. It's alway in the metroplex and we have 4 Mercedes dealers here.

Find a good price AND good warranty, at a place that is convenient and buy that battery. I can not say that one manufacture it better than another in longevity.

Call the number on your glove box door. I think it is like 18004Mercedes off the top of my head.

Roadside is for the life of the car, just don't ask them about towing. They only tow to the dealer.

What battery to buy....Update

Thanks to you guys and the info on this site everything went great.

Before going to Fairfield MB it occurred to me to check the Good Shops section, I am so glad I did.

I followed some members advise and contacted Carriage House of New London and was quoted $109 for the battery. Even though it's kind of a ride for me I went anyways. I am so glad I did, not only was I informed that this Novemebr they will hold a workshop, were we can bring our cars and mingle with the technicians but I was given a discount on my purchase for being a member of the Mercedes Benz Club of America.

The drive was well worth it!!!

Thanks again for all your input!!!

I wouldn't purchase a thing from MB of Fairfield if they were the only dealer in CT. Jerks and crooks.

They are the worst dealer around, now the Carriage House of New London is probably just about the best.

You could have also shot right up I91 to MB of North Haven, they are an excellent dealer in all respects. Paul is in charge of the parts department great guy.
