rev limiting for a 110 engine?
i have seen these rev limiting rotors in my son in law's porsche. is there something like this available that i can insert into my 110 engine so that when i autocross it i dont have to worry about overrevving it while zinging around in first or second gear, concentrating on hitting the next point?

What year is your E? I'd wager she already has a rev limiter in the FPR...besides, I6's don't mind being over rev'd quite as much as V's.. The M110 is nearly indestructable...well, I did see one get killed..fellow ran it out of oil and threw a rod.

Fuel Pressure Reg I'd guess...
I have seen them start on the tach at 6500rpm for the redline, so into the 7000rpm area seems okay to me. But is pointless if there is no power up there.

Have you thought about a rev-limiting rotor? I don't know if one from a 3.5 or 4.5 would fit, or what the m110's redline is, but it could work as long as you find one that physically fits the distributor and matches the redline of your engine.

Why not an MSD ignition, 6AL is a good box. Simple to hook up and all.

Fuel Pump Relay. The rev limiter is built in.
I have a MSD in my black coupe.. Bit of a let down to be honest.. Loud too...buzzes a lot. Jonathan

Yup that MSD is noisy, best bet is to ground it directly to the battery. Something to do with its resistance to noise production.

Porsche rotors come in 6400 rpm 7400 rpm limits...regular style Bosch rotor like the early VW's and such. VW lists a 5400 rpm rotor for the 17/18/2000cc Buses.
If the Bosch distributor on yours is like those, you can simply adjust the rpm cutout speed by altering the spring tension or anchor on the rotor. In the UK all our rebuilt/new motors where fitted with these 5400 rpm rotors and distributor cap was sealed . Your 110 motor, if built during the early 80's was fitted with a 6 cyl' Bosch cast iron distributor of the correct rotor size for these cut out rotors...if my memory serves.. .

so maybe a porsche 911 rotor will fit. i think the 280 has a red line of 6200. would the 6400 be close enough for autocross work, you think?

Just tweek the little metal anchor on the rotor back away from the spring....rev it up to 6 and a bit, see if it miss fires....
WARNING Due to the random and erratic nature of the limiting devise, unfortunate users have had cranks snap at the higher limits..7k or so....cut out rotor causes violent miss fire if rev'd with no load. It was a 'in gear-on the road' limiter, in case you couldn't hear the rev's. You'd be better of with the VW bus rotor and adjust it to 5500 rpm or so, by streching the spring a little.. .
