They tell me that my injectors are leaking badly enough to warrant replacement. The shop that has the car now doesn't do diesels and believes that there is something complicated about changing the injectors out. A friend with a 300D says that he did it himself and that putting one in was simply the reverse of taking one out except that you change the little hoses and O rings out. Has anyone out in diesel land ever changed injectors? This engine is a rebuilt(in 95) early '77 if that makes any difference. Sitting for several months is said to have caused the leaking even though some of them had been seeping a little for years. Thanks

First make absolutely sure that the leaking problem is not from the return lines between the injectors.

No big deal to change injectors. I could'nt find a 27 mm deep socket, so a 1 1/16" deep socket worked great instead. Just torque them (proper spec.) into place and use a new seal ring.

First, I agree that the leaking is probably the return hoses. Put your finger where they attach to the injector and, if is wet, buy yourself a length of new hose from the dealer (auto stores usually don't have the right size) and install it. Then see if you have a leak.
Pulling the injectors is very easy. Be sure you have a very sturdy vise and the proper sized wrench to get them apart, and do one at a time. Be sure to clean out the side hole in the tip with a very fine wire.

300D Leaky Injectors

Thanks for the input guys. The mechanic says that he actually saw little bubbles coming from the base of the injectors. The various hoses also leak some but he maintains that the car won't cold start because of the injector leaks. It seems like the injectors are not seated very well. Is this repairable or is it new injector time?
