UN Spare Parts List for 89-90 Mercedes 300SE/300SEL
A while back I was doing a google search for some part for my 1992 300TE, and came across an interesting document from the United Nations. This document (large PDF) contains a list of spare parts required to support some UN-sponsored relief program in Baghdad.
Interestingly enough, a spare parts list for the 89-90 300SE/SEL was in this document - I guess they use a number of these cars to support their work. Anyway, I found it fascinating to see the parts required to support these cars in the field, not just in the breadth of the list, but also in the relative numbers of parts needed. I don't know how many cars this parts list was intended to support, but you can see which parts the UN has found to be troublesome enough to include. Of course, there are the usual filters and brake components, but also a lot of other parts that I wouldn't think you'd need all that often to keep a fleet running. I guess they have a lot of data points that indicate that this stuff is all useful. I won't hazard any conspiracy theories about waste/graft, as that's not really the point of my post. Anyway, I've pulled the 5 pages of spare parts for the 300SE/SEL from this document and thought I'd share it. |
