cv boot coating?

I once used a rubber in tube product to seal a fork gaitor on a motorcycle. It lasted years.
My cv boot isn't leaking but looks spongy...should I coat w/ rubber in a tube?

This sounds like a great idea. If the product is petroleum based that might be a problem. What's the name of this product? Maybe 303 protectant will work. I bought some 303 but never used it. Can anyone give feedback ? Also, It seems that if your dash has never been treated with armoral or somthing like it on a 20+ year old car,the dash will crack the next day. I would not believe this if I didn't actually see it with my own eyes. Thanks.
